Harlowton Community Garden, what is it?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

It is for everyone and anyone. Come and help there is plenty to be doneand a list of needs is located at the garden. To participate means to share in the harvest and enjoy the fruits of your labor. It could simply be watering the plants, pulling weeds, mowing, weed whacking, or something more strenuous like helping to build a fence to protect the garden from the deer.

The garden is a place to grow a sense of community, expand our circle of friends, create better physical and mental health, reduce stress, and be a healthy example for our children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. The garden also provides nutritional benefits from the freshly grown organic vegetables.

On July 24, twenty-four youth from 10 months to 14 years of age arrived to paint the benches and stones that adorn the garden. Paintbrushes in had, each youth found that special rock to display their talents. Even some of the adults joined in the fun and allowed their creative juices to unfold before their very eyes.  It was a day of summertime fun for all involved.

We also have a summer series taking place at the garden on Thursday evenings from 7-8pm and all ages are welcome. See you at the garden! Contact Mandie Reed 632-4728 or Lea 632-4345 for more information.

e-Commerce training - CREAM OF THE WEST

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I am extremely thankful to Horizons for making me aware of the ‘e-Commerce’ training in Bozeman.  It was one of the VERY BEST training sessions I’ve attended in a long time — and I’ve gone to many.  The ideas presented were worthwhile and practical and the presenter was extremely knowledgeable plus engaging.  I just wish it would be offered again soon so I could go through it all again.  For a non-techie, it’s a lot to absorb but worth every minute.  Thanks again, Mandie and Company!  Alicia Moe, CREAM OF THE WEST

Community Bulletin Board

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

In the fast pace of day to day activity it is some times hard to keep up, especially with the happening of the community in which we call home. The Midtown Market has just recently placed a community bulletin board in their entry way to help keep every one informed and intouch. The bulletin board will be used to post upcoming events, meeting, notices, etc. So stop by and what’s happening or post your own items so we can all stay connected as a community.

Harlowton Drafts Vision Statement

Monday, December 24th, 2007

After gathering input from the community surveys and meetings and several revisions, we have completed a Vision Statement for Harlowton.

Vision Statement:

Harlowton is a community with a common vision and ideals.  It is a vibrant, nurturing town that appeals to people of all ages, races, colors and creeds.  We encourage civil discussion and participation by our citizens, and we mentor our young and old.

We are dedicated to investing in first-rate education and understand that education is life-long, so we offer wide-ranging academic and vocational learning opportunities.  In equal measure, we support a healthy lifestyle for all of our citizens  and, to this end,  provide excellent health care and health care facilities.

We are committed to building and maintaining a successful, entrepreneurial economy with a small-town atmosphere where young people have opportunity and seniors can find security in retirement.  We support this economy by shopping with our local merchants whenever we can.

We recognize and value our responsibility and connection to each other and our history, natural resources and environment, and we are committed to improving Harlowton’s quality of life by investing in our infrastructure and providing our citizens with recreational opportunities.
